Walking holidays are the best, even if challenging, because you see and experience things that stay with you for a long time. I'll let you know how my version of the Bistro salad turns out--the Marsala dressing is going to be the deal breaker.

Willie was glad to be sprung from the kennel a bit early. He was pretty philosophical when I explained that we couldn't walk that evening because of my sore feet. Not to worry, says he, it's hard to get a decent night's sleep with all those other dogs carousing in their kennels.Fayehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10227397761350236459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1861307316932691361.post-31256022657680251162009-04-14T16:11:00.000-04:002009-04-14T16:11:00.000-04:00Phew - my eyes have got blisters just trying to ke...Phew - my eyes have got blisters just trying to keep up with you and Rocket Butt! What a fantastic tour. I felt as if I've had a good old glimpse into what a Faye walking holiday is like - the architecture, the people, the food (the Bistro Salad sounds divine) - thank you.

So how was Willie when you got back? Did he demand to be walked straight away? Maybe it was better that he didn't see photos of all the dogs you'd spotted whilst away:-)Lane Mathiashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08147122748453850264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1861307316932691361.post-21229549265230175902009-04-13T09:05:00.000-04:002009-04-13T09:05:00.000-04:00pamela--a pole, not a post? Loved the scene when he first began drumming in the park. In Atlanta there's actually a outdoor permanent drumming installation called the Adamsville Music Pavilion with drums and an acoustic roof. And don't admire my gumption--I whined plenty!

chrisB--I was very upset about losing my photos. After a trip I usually organize them in a photo journal so I can go back and re-live the trip in my mind. Guess the blog will have to do.

kaycie--Madison was a little southern jewel. We learned about some fabulous bed and breakfasts around the area if you want that whole southern experience. And yes, Elvis was still alive in Memphis!

tracey--if you decide to try distance walking, put a little bit more time in training. Walking Willie the Pit 45 minutes a day was not quite enough to really toughen me up. Also, the less pounds you have to "walk around" the easier!

janis--if I do say so, I do have a really good memory for tiny details--good for this kind of experience.

church lady--calves of steel? Well, strong at least. Very little complaints except for blistered feet.

jan--if you and your husband are interested in this kind of experience, just check the American Volkssport Association webpage for walking clubs in your state. They do a lot of local walks as well. It's all volunteer organization.

sayre--spotted the red-striped awnings on the capitol as we drove into Tallahassee--very festive. Sorry I couldn't meet you. Downside to this kind of trip is that tight schedule and you're either on foot or relying on the bus. If we'd gotten there on a weekend, it would have been fun for you to walk with us. Several walkers met up with frinends and family along the way.

molly--hey! Good to hear from you again. Enjoy Philadelphia this summer.

mariposa--don't be awed. It's just mind over matter!

gattina--to quote Paul Simon, I too have "gone to Graceland"--but not on this trip!

m the misanthrope--I certainly did miss blog buddies--and Netflix! Amused myself on long bus rides by replaying my current favorite movie, Zelary, in my mind--or boring Sally with descriptions of favorite scenes. First thing I did when got back in town was to rescue Willie from his kennel prison and check blog.

jientje--now if my photos had been as wonderful as yours I would hareally been unhappy

jennifer--Pig on Beale must be a local thing. There were many diners who came in and just took a seat or waited patiently. Not all bent out of shape about the long wait or curt service.Fayehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10227397761350236459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1861307316932691361.post-38664447985708718782009-04-08T08:55:00.000-04:002009-04-08T08:55:00.000-04:00Very very cool! Part of the reason I walk them as training.

Sorry we didn't get to hook up while you were here, but it sure sounds like you were busy the WHOLE time.

I like the red-striped awnings too - though when they first went on, you should have heard the howls from the people.
