Recent retiree--35 year's experience teaching reading, English, adult basic education and volunteer leadership skills. Started this blog to exchange ideas and commentary with friends and others having an interest in joining the discussions. Greatest life accomplishments include: 1.organized my 3rd grade class to check out library books for me to get around librarian's weekly limit--Amazon.com, the Mullins Elementary 3rd Grade Class of 1956 is still waiting for "thank you" notes; 2. volunteered in the Peace Corps, island of St. Kitts, West Indies; 3.taught adults to read, earn their GEDs., and speak English as a second language; 4. bought a border collie puppy for $6, got evicted rather than give him up, and began a life-long love affair with all things "Dog"; 5. joined a physical fitness boot camp in my mid-50s--don't mess with someone who's been doing regulation pushups in wet grass at 5:30 a.m.; 6. walked across Northern England with best friend Sally--over 80 miles from the Irish to North Seas; and 7. travelled to many foreign countries for pleasure and work.

Off the Grid

Just a quick FYI for all my blogger BFFs. As the spies say on my favorite BBC "Spooks" program, I'm "off the grid" until about the first of June. Friday my Geek Squad friend and I were trying to upgrade the memory on my computer and things went very wrong. As in my computer crashed. Even a trip to the Office Depot emergency room for computers didn't revive it. So, I'm now shopping for a new computer, worrying about setup and learning Windows 7. The learning curve will be steep, I'm sure.

I'll check in with your blogs when I'm at the public library reading e-mails, but won't be taking library computer time to post here. No blogging, facebook, or e-chatting for at least two weeks--very boring time. I'll miss you. See you around the first of June.

Oh dear! Hope your search for a new computer is a success.
As for Windows 7, no need to worry as unlike it's predecessors there's nothing much to learn. It seems to do more things for itself and need less user input to run.
Hurry back, it'll seem an awful long time til you're back.

Oh no! There have been so many computer blips in the last week or so, I do hope you get back onto the grid asap with as little trouble as possible.

I thought you might already be off the grid, as it's been kind of quiet here and on FB. That your feet had taken you off on some adventure to be recounted upon your return.

Sorry to hear about your computer woes. Those are never fun!

Oh, I hate living without a computer -- one way to nip an addiction, tho. We'll be here when you get back -- not going anywhere fast.
