Views of the Mighty Ohio River

On Saturday I was in downtown Louisville in the afternoon to see the fabulous Broadway play "Jersey Boys".  Knowing that the play would be over around 5:30p, I brought camera along, hoping to get some good shots of sunsets on the Ohio River.  Bingo!  This is the old railroad bridge which connects Kentucky and Indiana.

Then here are a couple more shots of this view showing the changing light show:

I had to drive along River Road for a bit waiting for the sunset, so stopped at the old Louisville Water Tower to get these less flashy upriver shots of the river:

Finally, here's a not so good picture of the very beautiful water tower--I'll go back another time and try for a better photo when the light is better:

I'm slowly learning to always have camera with me when out and about instead of just planning photo shoots.  It's all about not missing an opportunity to capture both the unexpected and the anticipated.

  2. Gorgeous color and the silhouette of the bridge is fantastic! The river itself has never been a beauty...kinda like the Kentucky River which stays dirty much of the time. These shots are great!

  5. That first shot is simply stunning!! And I thought water towers were always bulbous things...
If you still had light at 5:30 PM, you are lucky! Here, I carry a flashlight for our 5 PM walks...

  13. Wow, just WOW on that first one!
All are lovely but that first one with that reflection is awesome!
I'll have to disagree with Brian about the river never having been a beauty. Granted on rainy winter days the Ohio here is dirty as well but it's often beautiful too. :)

  14. It looks so beautiful along the waterfront and how lucky were you to be in the right place at the right time to capture that stunning light show! I love the silhouette of the bridge in the foreground. Hope you enjoyed the play.
