Friday Fences - Classic Green

I've been showing you fences, and the gardens they surround, from the Old Louisville Hidden Treasures Garden Tour for most of July. They have been as individual as the gardeners who tend them--full of color, whimsy, and creativity. This last one is different, a classic--mostly green with limited color, somewhat formal and contained. The fence is painted green with a splash of black mixed in the paint can--what I think of as English Green.

A narrow passage that leads into the garden:

To the right the fence is tall and curved to show off shrubs and small trees in a narrow border:

This simple pot is planted with bamboo--I think--and nestled in the shrub border:

This is the view of the garden looking out from the house. The building is an old ivy covered carriage house:

On the left the fence is a different style--formal board capped with latticework:

These red hydrangeas pick up the color of some coral that decorated the glass tables in the garden:

A very fanciful birdhouse with plenty architectural detail is in a handy spot by the walk so you can keep track of all the avian goings-on:

A simple fountain on the patio:

And finally, this beautiful old door knob was on the side door. Like the garden, a classic beauty:

And now, before the weekend is over be sure to stop by our host Janis' place at Life According to Jan and Jer for some great fence posts (ha!) from all over.

That is very green and very well maintained! Even without a lot of color, it's a beautiful garden.

It really is a lovely place! There is much to maintain inside that fence - not a place for someone who doesn't like outdoor work, or had someone to do it! I love that birdhouse - very creative! And the lattice above the fence affords even more privacy...

I am loving this series of garden posts. I'm working with some other people to help someone in a wheelchair have a lovely little garden in her courtyard. I overheard her saying at her mother's funeral that she must have the ugliest yard on the street because nothing grows there (too much shade). I am hoping to get over there this weekend and check it out so we can make a plan! Your posts have been quite inspiring. Thanks!

This may be a little more formal than some of the other gardens you've shared, but it is still very peaceful and nice.

What a beautiful garden, I can imagine it with the sound of the fountain and it is a place where I would like to sit and rest for a while. The trouble is that I can also imagine just how much hard work must go into maintaining a garden like that...but still, it would be worth it. It all works beautifully.

I want to feel like I have actually completed something that day, so I finish the entire poject at once. The sense of completion is good for my mental state. metal fence panels
