Views of the Mighty Ohio River

On Saturday I was in downtown Louisville in the afternoon to see the fabulous Broadway play "Jersey Boys".  Knowing that the play would be over around 5:30p, I brought camera along, hoping to get some good shots of sunsets on the Ohio River.  Bingo!  This is the old railroad bridge which connects Kentucky and Indiana.

I had to drive along River Road for a bit waiting for the sunset, so stopped at the old Louisville Water Tower to get these less flashy upriver shots of the river:

Finally, here's a not so good picture of the very beautiful water tower--I'll go back another time and try for a better photo when the light is better:

I'm slowly learning to always have camera with me when out and about instead of just planning photo shoots.  It's all about not missing an opportunity to capture both the unexpected and the anticipated.

Thanksgiving Week Sunrises

Lately we've been having some spectacular sunrises so, while I was taking a Thanksgiving week break from blogging and facebooking, I decided to try to get daily photos of the sun coming up from my back deck. Each photo shows what the sky looked like from this same location between 7:30-8a.m.  I found the shots to be varied and delightful:

So, there you have it--a week of sunrises.  The week started off with streaks of glorious color, to days of grey light, then soft color returns, ending today with a red gold bank of color against a blue sky by 8:00 a.m. this morning.  I hope you've enjoyed your Thanksgiving week.  As for me, I'm re-charged creatively and plotting some--I hope--interesting photo shoots for December.  Oh, and I forgot to say--glad to be back and I've missed chatting with you.

Thanksgiving Break

Red roof barns are pretty common, the blue not so much--or at all.  Spotted the two together on a farm outside Louisville and thought they made a good rural picture.

Chasing Sunrise

At 6:30a on this Monday morning a cold rain is falling.  What a difference a day makes.  Yesterday morning the sky was ablaze when I took Chet out.  It was so exciting that I grabbed my camera and hopped in the car to get to higher ground where the view would be better--in my jim jams!  This was the 15 min. light show that I captured:

Small detail-gas tank was on "E". . .based on my state of undress, this sun chaser was glad she didn't need to walk to the gas station carrying an emergency gas can. :-)  Do you have similar photography stories?

Friday Fences - Louisville's Fleur-de-lis

Louisville was named for King Louis XVI when settled in 1778, in recognition of France's help during the Revolutionary War .  The city also took Louis' lily flower symbol, the fleur-de-lis.  Even today it still remains our most loved symbol as on this fence in historic Old Louisville:

Macro Monday - Vintage

Vintage tea towel from the 1950-60s that I found at the Locust Grove Antique Fair.  Colors and design work just as well today, I think.

Friday Fences - Grizzle Gate

I spotted this unusual gate to a property on a country road near my home on a drive recently when I was looking for photoworthy fences, barns, and fall foliage.  I googled "Grizzle Gate" thinking it may be some kind of specialty farm, but no luck.  Can only assume that "Grizzle" must be this guy.  Must keep this from Chet or he'll want a Chetgate for our place. . .

Here are a couple more pics of the typical black Kentucky farm fencing.  Look closely and you'll see some wire fences attached to the wood--makes me think some kind of animals must be kept here.  All and all, a great mystery!
