This blue boy was a first sighting for me yesterday on the deck railing where I scatter birdseed and peanuts daily. I'm thinking this is a juvenile blue jay because the adult jays are my best customers. They love those peanuts! Two things make me doubt my ID -- the missing black markings on throat and his tail seems rather long. Maybe he will develop the black markings and grow into his tail as he gets older? Regardless of his ID, loved that little topknot, round babyish head, and fluffy body.

Thank you Eileen--so a Tufted Titmouse? My learning curve for bird ID is very steep but I love trying to figure out who they are. Just saw a Blue Tit on Andrew's post that had me wondering if I'd mis-IDed. :-)

Nice shots! We only see Titmice during the winter when we have feeders out. They're flighty, nervous little things!

According to my Birds of Kentucky book "Tit" comes from a Scandinavian word meaning "little." Suffix "mouse" is derived from the Old English word mase meaning "bird." Translates "small bird." They are notorious for pulling hair from sleeping dogs, cats and squirrels to line their nests. (Sleep with one eye open, Chet!)
Says here the male will feed the female during courtship and nesting. Well, at least he buys her dinner first.

I think it's a tufted titmouse....just guessing. Great series of images you've shared. Trust me, ID'ing some birds is VERY difficult. Some, look so similar to others.
