Recent retiree--35 year's experience teaching reading, English, adult basic education and volunteer leadership skills. Started this blog to exchange ideas and commentary with friends and others having an interest in joining the discussions. Greatest life accomplishments include: 1.organized my 3rd grade class to check out library books for me to get around librarian's weekly limit--Amazon.com, the Mullins Elementary 3rd Grade Class of 1956 is still waiting for "thank you" notes; 2. volunteered in the Peace Corps, island of St. Kitts, West Indies; 3.taught adults to read, earn their GEDs., and speak English as a second language; 4. bought a border collie puppy for $6, got evicted rather than give him up, and began a life-long love affair with all things "Dog"; 5. joined a physical fitness boot camp in my mid-50s--don't mess with someone who's been doing regulation pushups in wet grass at 5:30 a.m.; 6. walked across Northern England with best friend Sally--over 80 miles from the Irish to North Seas; and 7. travelled to many foreign countries for pleasure and work.

Leavin' on a Jet Plane - Louisville to Stockholm

Early this morning I'm starting the first leg of a rather long flight. It's Louisville to Chicago O'Hare. Late tomorrow afternoon get on a Scandinavian Air flight to Stockholm. If all goes well will land at Stockholm Arlanda Airport early Sunday morning. Let's hope I'm not too jet-lagged to figure out the right taxi to get to my hotel. If that's successful, I'll put myself in the hands of a Tauck tour director for the next 2+ weeks.

I'll be off the grid during that time, but will look forward to catching up with everyone when I return on Labor Day weekend.

"Vill du dansa med mig?" Swedish for "Will you dance with me?" I know, I know--should have figure out how to ask "Where is the toilet?", but not as much fun.

Hi, not knowing if you read the comments during your travel I just might be a little late. Hope the Scandinavian journey is just as enjoyable as is should be and I also wanted to tell you to make sure to ask to get your VAT back on items you buy. At least in Sweden most shops will be able to help you with the "taxfree shopping for tourist" and since VAT in Sweden adds 25% to the price it's worth to ask.
